This is the beginning of many blog posts about Toyota Land Cruiser builds at A+ Japanese Auto Repair. We will gather photos and information to share about products that we recommend, installation instructions, and our on going reviews from our clients about their experiences. Over the next 6 months, we will showcase rock sliders, undercarriage armor, front and rear bumpers, tires, lift kit, mechanical work, body work, and a few photos of these vehicles on the trail.

FACTS:

  • Over 200,000 miles – odometer stopped working at 203,486 miles.
  • Typical forest green paint damage on the hood and roof .
  • Great donor car with front, center, and rear differential lockers come factory from Toyota
  • 4.5 liter 1FZ-FE in-line 6 cylinder engine paired with A442F Transmission
  • In need of a mechanic with some time, money, and patience.

Mechanical items needed- Cylinder head gasket, engine timing chain kit, reseal power steering pump, water pump, thermostat & gasket, cooling system hoses, drive belts, valve cover gasket replacement, ignition wires, spark plugs, cap & rotors, engine oil change, transmission oil change, front differential fluid, rear differential fluid, transfer case fluid, rear main seal, and various wiring projects.

Custom modifications “needed” - 2.5″ Old Man Emu Heavy suspension lift kit (this includes the springs and shocks), drop brackets for the sway bar suspension links front & rear, Metal Tech Sliders, 4X4 Labs Rear Bumper with tire carrier and gas can carrier, ARB Roof Rack, ARB Front Bumper with bull bar and Winch Mount, Dual Battery System with Battery Isolator, Alpine Stereo and two 10″ MTX woofers, rear drawer system, roof top tent, 12,000 warn winch, iron pig transmission skid plate, and a few more to come….

A+ Japanese Auto Repair was started in 1997 by the Sevim family in San Carlos CA . Both sons were Eagle Scouts and wanted a way to connect their auto repair shop to the outdoors. Adam purchased a 40th edition 1997 Toyota Landcruiser to travel to his favorite camping destinations but along the way discovered the off-road expeditions.

Now these two brothers used there auto repair shop to make sure they can enjoy the outdoor adventure sport of off-road expedition. This blog and their website will be help introduce you to the Toyota FJ80 auto repair and build tips.

Toyota has been building one of the most reliable and strongest SUV’s known to man. Most owners will drive them without major service or repair until the 200,000 mark. For this project we will focus on the 1993-1997 Toyota Landcruiser (FJ80).
