Cleaner air for your engine and for your cabin
Your car has more than one air filter, and each protects something different. They are inexpensive to replace and easy to forget.
- Engine air filter. Keeps dust and debris out of the engine. A clogged one can reduce power and fuel economy.
- Cabin air filter. Cleans the air you breathe inside the car. A dirty one causes musty smells, weak airflow and foggy windows. During wildfire season, a fresh cabin filter makes a real difference.
- Hybrid battery filter. Many Toyota and Lexus hybrids have a small filter or screen on the battery cooling fan, often near the rear seat. When pet hair and dust clog it, the hybrid battery runs hot and wears out sooner.
Most manufacturers suggest replacing the engine and cabin filters every 15,000 to 30,000 miles, and more often for dusty driving or allergy sufferers. We check all your filters at every oil service and show you the old one, so you can see whether it needs replacing.

Frequently asked questions
How often should I replace my cabin air filter?
About every 15,000 to 30,000 miles, or once a year. Replace it sooner after wildfire smoke, if you have allergies or if you notice weak airflow or a musty smell.
Does a dirty engine air filter really hurt performance?
A badly clogged filter can reduce power and fuel economy, especially on older engines. It is an inexpensive part, so it makes sense to keep it clean.
Where is the hybrid battery filter?
On many Toyota and Lexus hybrids, it sits on the battery cooling intake near the rear seat. Pet hair and dust clog it easily, and a blocked filter makes the hybrid battery run hot.

This is my first time going to A+ Japanese Auto Repair and I plan to return for other car repair/maintenance services. I appreciate the total transparency and honesty. The complementary ride to and from the shop is extremely helpful. As a bonus they have loyal rewards program and all work is backed by a warranty which they explain what it is. The staff is friendly and answer questions that you have.

Took my 19 year old Tacoma to A+ Japanese Auto based on the reviews. I knew it needed a 150K service, and they suggested an inspection along with an oil change so they could determine what services were needed. The front office staff was exceptional from the time I made my appointment, arrived to the shop, and discussed the recommended repairs. The technicians took detailed photos shown me by my service provider. She explained all of the details regarding the repairs necessay and helped categorize the repairs based on safety. I was very impressed with this level of service, and highly recommend this business.
