Brakes you can trust on every stop.
Brakes wear a little every time you stop, and the Peninsula's hills and traffic wear them faster. Catching that wear early usually means a simple pad replacement instead of new rotors and calipers.
We measure pad thickness and rotor condition, check calipers and hoses for leaks or sticking and test your brake fluid for moisture. Then we show you what we found and what it will take to fix it, before any work starts.
We use quality pads and rotors matched to your vehicle, and we flush brake fluid on the schedule your manufacturer recommends. Hybrids use regenerative braking, so their pads often last longer but their calipers can seize from lack of use. We know what to look for on both.

Frequently asked questions
How long do brake pads last?
It varies widely with driving habits, from about 25,000 to over 70,000 miles. Hill driving and stop-and-go traffic wear pads faster, while hybrids often go much longer thanks to regenerative braking.
Do I need new rotors every time I replace pads?
Not always. If your rotors are thick enough and not warped or deeply grooved, they can stay. We measure them and only recommend replacement when they are worn past spec.
Why are my brakes squealing?
Many pads have a built-in wear indicator that squeals when they get thin. Squealing can also come from glazed pads or missing hardware. Grinding is more serious and usually means metal-on-metal contact, so have it checked right away.

This is my first time going to A+ Japanese Auto Repair and I plan to return for other car repair/maintenance services. I appreciate the total transparency and honesty. The complementary ride to and from the shop is extremely helpful. As a bonus they have loyal rewards program and all work is backed by a warranty which they explain what it is. The staff is friendly and answer questions that you have.

Took my 19 year old Tacoma to A+ Japanese Auto based on the reviews. I knew it needed a 150K service, and they suggested an inspection along with an oil change so they could determine what services were needed. The front office staff was exceptional from the time I made my appointment, arrived to the shop, and discussed the recommended repairs. The technicians took detailed photos shown me by my service provider. She explained all of the details regarding the repairs necessay and helped categorize the repairs based on safety. I was very impressed with this level of service, and highly recommend this business.
